Patriot Park at the College of the Ozarks, Missouri
College of the Ozarks is an interesting private college in Missouri that we’ve visited before. It being Memorial Day in the USA today, I thought it would be appropriate to feature the college’s war memorials.
Situated in a cluster at the periphery of the campus are several patriotic memorials that honor those who served and sacrificed to preserve American liberties.
The Missouri Gold Star Families Memorial honors Gold Star Families — those who have lost a loved one in war. A reminder that freedom is not free.

Visiting the College of the Ozarks, Branson
I enjoy visiting colleges when time allows and the campus seems interesting enough. While in Branson, we visited the College of the Ozarks situated just outside the city.
College of the Ozarks is a private Christian liberal arts college also known as “Hard Work U”. It was founded by a Presbyterian minister in 1906 and offers an interesting model for post secondary education. No tuition is charged of its students, and the college tries to recruit students who demonstrate financial need. Every full-time student is required to work at a campus job to help defray his or her expenses (this work is supplemented by scholarships and gifts from donors). Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery, Branson
Most trout hatcheries are located in cooler climates, like in the northern states, so I was a little surprised to learn there was a trout hatchery near Branson in Missouri. I thought I’d give the place a closer look – as do nearly a thousand people each day
The Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery sits along the water’s edge of Lake Taneycomo at the base of the immense Table Rock Dam. It’s because of the construction of Table Rock Dam that a trout fishing environment exists in Lake Taneycomo. The dam mostly drains the cooler water from the base of Table Rock Lake into Lake Taneycomo, creating cool water conducive to trout habitat and, as such, a popular trout fishery.

Danna’s Bar-B-Que and Burger Shop, Branson
Danna’s Bar-B-Que and Burger shop is situated in a charming building that serves exactly what the sign says — BBQ and burgers
Everything at Danna’s is fresh. Larger cuts of beef and pork are smoked for 12-14 hours over local hickory wood; smaller cuts of meat and ribs are smoked twice a day for 4 hours. The result is food that tastes terrific!
Burgers and a variety of sandwiches are available, but most people seemed to be enjoying the plates of BBQ. Plate meals are served with Memphis rolls, delicious cole slaw and the tastiest baked beans I’ve ever had.
Missouri and its neighboring states are known for fine BBQ, and Danna’s won’t disappoint.

“Pic of the Week”, July 17, 2020: Titanic Museum, Branson, Missouri
I was surprised by many things during a recent visit to Branson. I was surprised how much I liked the town and its residents. And I was also surprised that my favorite attraction (of the ones we visited) would be the Titanic Museum.
At first blush the Museum seemed a little too corny. A museum about a ship sunken in the Atlantic located in a mid-western American city? And the museum is shaped like the ship itself, complete with the iceberg that sank it? Really?
Fortunately I overcame my original instincts to avoid the place and am very glad I bought those entry tickets, as this was a fascinating 3 hour visit. The museum covers two floors and gives …
