“Pic of the Week”, April 21, 2023: Vintage Fire Trucks, Alberta
The Bomber Command Museum of Canada, housed in the small Alberta town of Nanton, includes in its varied collection two old fire trucks. Both of these served on air force bases in Alberta in WW II, intended to protect the bases in case of emergencies. Both are in excellent condition.
The larger is a 1942 Ford and the smaller is a 1943 Ford. Rather lovely, aren’t they?

Great Cars along the Highway: 1930 Ford Model A
Ford released the Model A following a successful 18 year production run of its Model T, which was becoming a little technologically outdated. The Model A was released in late 1927. It was well received and in less than two years, Ford had sold two million Model A’s.
Over the years of Model A production, Ford released a number of different color and body style options, with the sales price ranging from around $400 up to $1400 depending on how the car was configured. Besides in the USA, the Model A was also made in almost a dozen foreign plants ranging from Argentina to Japan to Germany. So it enjoyed global success.

Great Cars along the Highway: 1948 Ford Tudor Super Deluxe Sedan
This beautiful 1948 Ford was part of a car show in Calgary. It’s powered by a 403 cu inch V8. I remember as a boy, one of our family friends had a car of about this vintage and design, and I loved going for a ride in it. Couldn’t see much from the back seat as a kid, but it was still a fun ride.

Great Cars Along the Highway: Ford Sunliner, Spokane
Came across this lovely old car parked in a shopping mall in Spokane.
It’s a Ford from the early 1950s that seems to have been reworked somewhat, especially its grill, making it a little hard to pinpoint. I expect a 1952 or 1953 vintage, but a lovely classic convertible. I found it interesting that it has its old dealer plaque, Stoddard-Wendle. Wendle is still a popular Ford dealership in the city.
