A Sampler of Rocky Mountain Street Art

I’ve enjoyed many visits to the Colorado Rockies, mostly in the summer months as I like the weather and wildflowers that time of year.  I love spending time in the mountains!  There’s nothing more pleasant than going for a walk on a nice day on a wilderness trail or in a beautiful alpine town resting in a lovely valley, surrounded by majestic peaks. 

During these strolls I’ve noticed an increased amount of street art displayed on the lanes and walkways of the tourist towns.  A lot of the work is of high quality, mostly bronzes, many reflecting the mountain life.  These photos include some of the street art I came across in Vail, Avon, Aspen and Leadville.

Vail Farmer’s Market

04 Vail’s Farmers Market (32)

During the summer months there’s a nice Farmers’ Market in Vail every Sunday.  It’s situated on the north side of Gore Creek, on Meadow Drive, in close proximity to the town’s large parking structure.  It compliments the nearby Minturn Market which is held on Saturday and many of the vendors from that smaller but more compact Minturn Market also show up at Vail.

The Vail market is, at least to my impression, significantly larger than the Minturn Market, although not its not as compact and fun to navigate.  It features seasonal produce which mostly is grown in eastern and western Colorado.  Not too much food is grown at the high elevation of Vail which …

A Stroll through the Betty Ford Alpine Garden, Vail, Colorado

001 Betty Ford Alpine Garden 09-2014

The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is the world’s highest botanical garden, situated at the foot of Vail Mountain in the Colorado Rockies, in gorgeous Vail Valley.  The Garden rests at an altitude of 8,200 feet (2,500 m) and is named in honor of former First Lady Betty, the wife of President Gerald Ford.  The Fords had a home in Vail as the President was an avid skier, and both were very active in the Vail community.  Ford Park consists of this alpine garden, a fairly large amphitheater complex, a children’s play area and a large grass field for soccer and such.  As you’d expect, these attractions are very popular in the warm Rocky Mountain summers.
