Hiking to Lake Annette, Banff National Park
Banff National Park, on a usual summer day, has many areas that are quite busy — even crowded. I’m thinking particularly of Lake Louise and the Banff townsite, places I avoid until the off season. But there are lots of places in Banff National Park where you can go to enjoy spectacular mountain scenery, have a nice hike and nature experience, and see almost no people.
The Lake Annette trek is one of these spots. My oldest nephew and I did this hike a few years back and I don’t think we encountered more than 10 people in a half days’ worth of hiking.
(Paradise Creek and Paradise Valley)
The hike starts at the Paradise Creek parking lot, not far from Lake Louise. …
“Pic of the Week”, November 23, 2018: Paradise Valley, Nevada
While on a road-trip last year, I drove through northern Nevada and came across a rather pretty place in the desert. Relatively green and lush, it was known as Paradise Valley. One of about a dozen places by the same name I’ve encountered in my travels and like the rest of them, visually striking. This was a place of horse and cattle ranchers.
Don’t know much about the region but it was worth stopping and enjoying the view.

“Pic of the Week”, October 20, 2017: Paradise Valley, Alberta
There are probably more places that go by the name “Paradise Valley” than by any other. This particular one is situated on the western outskirts of Medicine Hat, just off the TransCanada Highway in eastern Alberta.
The valley was home to the native peoples of Alberta for thousands of years. They lived here, gathered wild berries, and hunted buffalo (chasing them off a cliff at a nearby”jump”). They valley has a rich archaeologic record documenting this history which has been extensively explored.
Today this Paradise valley is home to a public park and golf course, and has this pretty floral wagon situated within it.
