Thanks for the note, Peter. Amazingly, Bayeux wasn’t bombed (a priest went to London and presented the case for the historic value of the tapestry and cathedral, and was heard), but it certainly sustained heavy shell damage from tanks, etc. Nothing left of all that except for those heartbreaking grave markers. The people of Normandy, despite suffering heavy casualties in the civilian population, are genuinely grateful for the sacrifices of all the Allies, and it is something they teach their children. Good for them. They were worth saving from tyranny.
